Growing up, I always wanted things immediately. As a young boy, my desires were urgent and my actions impulsive. If I saw something I wanted, I went after it with haste, rarely considering the consequences. This impatience led me into challenging and often difficult situations. With no positive male figures in my life to guide me, I had to navigate these trials on my own, learning through experience the importance of patience.

Patience, often called a virtue, is a cornerstone of personal growth and success. It’s the ability to endure difficult circumstances, delay gratification, and wait for the right moment. This trait is essential not only in our personal lives but also in our interactions with others and our relationship with the world around us.

As a child, I lacked this virtue. The absence of a male role model, particularly my father, who could teach me patience, left me vulnerable to the pitfalls of my community and impulsive behavior. My youthful exuberance and haste often led to unforeseen challenges, from minor setbacks to significant life lessons. Each misstep was a stark reminder of the importance of patience, a quality I had yet to master.

Through trial and error, I began to understand the value of patience. Each mistake taught me to slow down, think things through, and consider the broader implications of my actions. This journey of self-discovery was neither quick nor easy. It was while in prison I learned the importance and true significance behind having patience. It required me to confront my flaws, acknowledge my limitations, and make a conscious effort to change.

A significant turning point in my journey came through my religious beliefs. In Islam, the concept of patience, or "sabr" in Arabic, is deeply rooted in the teachings and practice of the faith. Sabr is more than just waiting; it’s about maintaining composure, practicing restraint, and trusting in the timing of the Creator. Islam emphasizes that patience is integral to faith, encouraging believers to endure hardships with grace and trust in God's plan.

Patience enables us to both respect and appreciate the process and journey to our intended destinations. We must always exercise this virtue, in order to live productive and healthy lives. #whowithme
