As we face life’s challenges, our mental fortitude stands as a crucial pillar determining our ability to navigate through adversity. Mental health, often overlooked or stigmatized, is indeed a real illness that requires attention, understanding, and proactive efforts to cultivate a strong mindset. Although I don’t personally suffer from mental health illness, there have been times when my mental has tried to deceive me. Had I not become the master of my mind, I may have been amongst those still struggle with that battle.

The concept of looking at the glass as half-full versus half-empty reflects the fundamental difference between an optimistic and pessimistic outlook. It's not merely about positive thinking but rather a cognitive approach that shapes our perception of the world and our responses to it. Choosing to see possibilities amidst challenges can significantly impact our ability to bounce back from setbacks.

During moments of intense struggle, such as solitary confinement, my mind became a battleground where sanity was tested. The isolation and confinement felt suffocating, leading to a gradual erosion of my mental well-being. It's an experience that underscores the fragility of our psyche when deprived of human connection and external stimuli. I served over a dozen years in incarceration, but imagine being confined within confinement, in a 6x9 cell for 23 hours a day, for 545 days. It was during that time, I felt my sanity was slipping away.

Had it not been for embracing Islam, delving into literature, and writing novels, I’m sure I would have gone mad. These blessings illuminated the transformative power of me finding purpose and solace amidst darkness. Engaging in meaningful activities, whether spiritual or creative, can serve as a lifeline, restoring hope, and anchoring sanity during tumultuous times.

It is extremely important for us to check on loved ones grappling with mental health issues. The stigma surrounding mental illness often hinders open conversations and support systems. However, reaching out, lending a listening ear, and offering genuine empathy can make a world of difference in someone's healing journey.

In essence, building a strong mental fortress is not a one-time endeavor but a continuous process of self-awareness, self-care, and resilience-building. By nurturing our minds and fostering compassionate communities, we pave the way for a healthier, more empathetic society where mental well-being is prioritized and embraced. We are who we say and believe we are…Let’s be Strong Minded…Open Minded, Together! #whowithme
